Norfolk Rail Station To Enter Contracting Phase In October

July's edition of Norfolk Development Department's Norfolk Business Insider Report announced that Amtrak Virginia’s Norfolk Passenger Rail Station will enter the contracting phase in October.  This will be followed by the construction phase.  As of right now, the platform for passengers looks about complete.  All that's left is the actual station.

Some details of the project:

• 3,500 square foot station.
• The building will include ticket counter, a waiting room and bathrooms.
• The platform will be 725 feet long and partially covered with canopies.
• The train service will be provided by Amtrak and will have an engine and 7 passenger cars.
• The station, just near Harbor Park, will be looked at as a potential multi-modal station in the future to include rail, light rail, bus, cab, and ferry services.
•  Project cost - $3,000,000
• Completion Date – Summer 2013

Rail service is scheduled to begin this fall with a temporary ticket kiosk set up until completion of the station.  For more information on this project, click here.
