Norfolk Considering Allowing Food Trucks

Last week, the Pilot reported that the Norfolk City Planning Commission will meet on December 13th to discuss loosening regulations against food trucks.  Re:Vision Norfolk has submitted the request which ultimately would expand the hours of operation for food trucks and how long they'd be permitted to serve at one location within an 24 hour period.

While this is a start, it seems City Council will eventually have to tackle the real issue; where food trucks will actually be permitted to sell their food.  Those for food trucks would like City Council to let trucks set up on public and private property, provided they had the owner's permission.  This would allow, food trucks to park at The Plot or The Scope.

Food trucks are becoming increasingly popular around the country for their reasonable prices and specialty items.  They've been known to attract people to cities, which in the end, improves business in those areas.  People say they could take business away from brick and mortar establishments, but that hasn't been a ton of evidence to support that.  And if anything, competition is usually good for everyone. For City Council, this should be a no-brainer.
