Amtrak Ridership Doubles Projected Numbers

According to WVEC, Amtrak Virginia is reporting 11,000 trips have been taken on the new Norfolk to Washington route.  That doubled what the city projected for the first month.

It was also reported that approximately 6,500 passengers got on or off at the Norfolk stop in that same time.  With passenger rail, Norfolkers are now able to travel to such cities as, D.C., Philly, NYC, and Boston for one-way prices ranging from $38 to $73.

Though the rail platform is complete at Harbor Park, the actual facility is not yet ready.  construction is expected to finish next spring.   In the meantime, there will be a temporary kiosk set up to serve passengers.  Passengers will not be able to but tickets there, however, and must buy them online at amtrak.com, through Amtrak's mobile app, or by calling (800) USA-RAIL.

    I rode it six times in connection with business. It's a great service! I'd like it to leave Washington about thirty minutes later, and leave Norfolk in the morning fifteen minutes earlier. Plus have the light rail in Norfolk run at the same time the trains do.
