Influx Of Downtown Apartments Could Bring More Business

Last night, WAVY ran a nice piece on the apartment boom that's about to hit downtown Norfolk and the push to bring more rental properties within the next year or two.  There are at least four new apartment complexes in the works, bringing in an estimating one-to-two thousand more people downtown.
Wainwright Building will bring over 120 units downtown


The foot traffic of downtown residents would mean a lot to businesses.  More establishments would stay open later and on weekends to accommodate customers.  In addition, downtown residents would demand more amenities nearby, such as a grocery store.  There's even a petition to bring Whole Foods downtown (See Facebook Page). This all indirectly contributes to a more vibrant downtown area.

  4. Always good to see...just make the rent somewhat manageable IMO. Something not much more than what you can find in Ghent (min. $800 for a 1 BR)
