Norfolk Could Sweeten Hotel And Conference Center Deal

As you may know, Tuesday is the City Council vote for the proposed Hotel and Conference Center.  The Pilot is reporting that while officials are working to put the finishing touches on the deal with Gold Key PHR Hotels and Resorts, Norfolk may sweeten things to ensure the project moves forward.

If the agreement is approved at Tuesday's Council meeting, Gold Key will take in additional incentives to include future sales tax revenue made by the project, as well as an additional $2.5 million toward construction costs for the hotel.  For more on how the project would be financed click here.

Features of the proposal include:

  • A 300-room, 23 -story hotel
  • 50,000 square-foot conference center
  • 600-space parking deck
  • High-end restaurant
  • Rooftop garden possibly including a bar/restaurant
  • DoD-compliant meeting spaces for DoD conferences
  • An ornate lobby and outside entrance
  • Presidential suites
