Life. Celebrated Daily.

This isn’t just Norfolk’s motto, but it can also be seen as an ode to its history.  Its downtown hugs the Elizabeth River and the Chesapeake Bay, which helped provide it with this life we celebrate almost 400 years ago.  Without getting into a history lesson, the natural harbor essentially grew Downtown Norfolk into the urban, financial, and cultural center of the region that it is today.  And it is still evolving.

When you look at old photos of Norfolk from the early 1900’s, it’s fascinating to see how populated the city once was.  The streets were literally lined with people going about their day-to-day activities.  It actually looked like a major city ala New York or Chicago.
As time has gone by, Norfolk has constantly evolved, which has been both good and bad.  However, over the last 15 years, the city has begun to set its sights on becoming that bustling metro that it once was.

When you walk downtown or through some of the great neighborhoods, such as Ghent, you’re likely to think about the potential this city has.  City leaders are doing a decent job (under difficult circumstances) in trying to reach that potential but there are also several forward thinking ideas of Norfolk residents that city leaders may not have considered.  That’s the purpose of this blog, to bring these things to light along with all of the other great aspects that allow those of us who live here to celebrate life daily.
