Norfolk Passenger Rail Station Platform Looks Done

The actual platform for the upcoming Norfolk Passenger Rail Station is just about complete to the naked untrained eye.  At the very least it symbolizes progress in building the station, which just recently had its design approved by City Council.

Up close, the concrete platform is pretty massive, has a handicap ramp and is filled with decent-looking black lighting fixtures.

Nice Platform!
     Some details of the project:
  • 3,500 square foot station.
  • The building will include ticket counter, a waiting room and bathrooms.
  • The platform will be 725 feet long and partially covered with canopies.
  • The train service will be provided by Amtrak and will have an engine and 7 passenger cars.
  • The station, just near Harbor Park, will be looked at as a potential multi-modal station in the future to include rail, light rail, bus, cab, and ferry services.
  •  Project cost - $3,000,000
  • Completion Date – Summer 2013
