A little late to the party but last week, the Pilot ran a story on plans to develop the old Wainwright Building into apartments. According to the article, Buddy Gadams (of Granby Tower fame...and misfortune) will convert the 9-story medical office tower built in 1929 into an apartment building.
Approximately 200 apartments will rent $1,000 and $2,000, with most apartments priced at about $1,200. The rooftop will feature a penthouse, pool, putting green, and dog-walking area. The apartment complex will also have a cyber cafe and fitness center. Another feature is that the ugly street-level windows which have been sealed up by concrete will be open back up into functioning windows.
Developers are hoping to begin construction before the end of the year. The plan has yet to be approved by the City's Planning Commission but will go before the group this month. To see an up-close look at the design plans, click here.
