All Aboard! Amtrak Officially Back In Norfolk

For the first time in 35 years, an Amtrak train left Norfolk early this morning at the new platform in Harbor Park.  This was the inaugural trip of the new passenger rail route, which will travel to Richmond and points North, including Washington D.C, Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston.

According to The Pilot, the service began 10 months ahead of schedule after infrastructure improvements and track upgrades were made.  Because of the early start date, there is still no permanent station in place and passengers will not have shelter and must use temporary bathrooms.  In addition, tickets must be purchased online.  However, construction preparations are scheduled to begin this week on the new station.  Once built, it will include all of the amenities.

Parking at Harbor park will be available for $5 per day with no limit on the number of days a car can be left there.  Security and city ambassadors will be on hand 24/7.  For more detailed information, click on this guide from The Pilot.
