About two weeks ago, Re:Vision Norfolk submitted a request to expand the hours of operation for food trucks and how long they'd be permitted to serve at one location within an 24 hour period. Apparently, the request was met with mixed reviews.
The city's planning staff (which ultimately reports to the City Planning Committee) are okay with food trucks downtown, but would only allow them on public spaces, such as the Scope Plaza, The PLOT, and other city parking lots. Re:Vision Norfolk is pushing to permit food trucks on private property, as well.
Another point of discussion would be the time vendors would be allowed to sell until. Re:Vision Norfolk is pushing for a closing time of 2:00 a.m. like other downtown businesses, but the planning staff fears noise may be an issue.
These topics and others surrounding food trucks are on the docket for this Thursday's Planning Commission meeting. Then this issue would be discussed at the City Council meeting on January 8th. Finally, adoption may not occur until February.
