Downtown Convention Center Still In Works

First, let me just say Merry Christmas to everyone.  And second, in what may be a present to some, The Pilot reported this week that a conference center downtown and hotel proposed a seven years ago may still be on the table.  According to several City Council members, the project, which originally included a new mid-sized convention center, high-end hotel, restaurant and 600-space parking garage to downtown, has recently been revived.

The project, located on the corner of Granby St. and Main St. downtown, was shelved a few years ago when financing became an issue.  There has been questioning on how exactly the city would finance it this time, but there is money stowed away in the budget for a convention center.  There is also talk that the proposed redevelopment of Waterside, has helped renew interest.

Stay tuned for more updates as this could become a hot topic in 2013.
