Food Trucks Get Approval From Norfolk Planning Commission

As an update from a blog posting earlier this week, the Norfolk City Planning Commission voted unanimously last night to allow food trucks downtown.  According to The Pilot, if City Council agrees at its upcoming meeting on January 8th, food trucks would be permitted on public and private property.

In addition, the commission also agreed to send a letter to City Council requesting that food trucks be allowed downtown without a trial-period and without operating time limitations, which would permit them to operate until 2 a.m.

Though last night's vote was a huge win for food truck advocates, convincing City Council remains a  hurdle.  There are some members who fear food trucks would create competition for brick and mortar establishments (which is a pretty lame reason not to have them), but hopefully this unanimous vote, proves the demand for them.  Visit Norfolk Live!, for the fallout from this meeting.
