City Approves New Hotel And Conference Center!

Last night's City Council meeting provided some good news for advocates of the proposed $126 million luxury hotel and convention center project, as council members approved of it via a 7-1 vote.

The project will be located on the lot at the corner of Main St. and Granby St. in downtown Norfolk. Features include:
  • A 300-room, 23 -story hotel
  • 50,000 square-foot conference center
  • 600-space parking deck
  • High-end restaurant
  • Rooftop garden possibly including a bar/restaurant
  • DoD-compliant meeting spaces for DoD conferences
  • An ornate lobby and outside entrance
  • Presidential suites
According to the Pilot, the project will bring in about $2 million annually in new revenue for the city.  It is expected to create 500 construction jobs and 250 full time positions.  Completion is expected for Spring of 2017.
