Could Waterside Approval Be Coming Soon?

Over the last few months, we haven't really heard anything on Waterside's progress other than that a Waterside Live and the new Norfolk Conference Center and Hotel would play off of each other and that city approval for the deals on both were expected this spring.  One down, one to go.

Though a deal in principle was reached with Cordish Cos. last November, The Pilot reports that there are still some small details of the deal still haven't been finalized, which prevents it from going before City Council for final approval.  Yet City Council members insist that it's close.

Waterside Live! is expected to play a major role in Norfolk's plan to revitalize the land along the Elizabeth River from Nauticus to Harbor Park.  The $30 million plan (mostly privately-funded) involves using the existing structure and knocking out portions the front and rear walls and replacing them with glass.  This would open up a view of the Elizabeth River from Waterside Drive.  The entertainment venue would include up to 13 new chain restaurants, a marketplace selling items unique to the Hampton Roads area, and an entertainment venue.
