Food Truck Decision Tonight!

Tonight's the big night as far as food trucks go.  Norfolk City Council will vote on the ordinance (R-15 on the agenda) that would allow food trucks and pushcarts in designated areas throughout the city.

Over the last few months, the Norfolk City Planning Commission has been hard at work constantly revising their proposal for city council based on numerous council changes and recommendations dealing with suggested hours of operation, types of food truck allowed, and locations where they'd be permitted to operate.

The Planning Commission is recommending the following:
  • Push carts would be allowed on designated sidewalks.
  • Designated parking spaces for food trucks including two spots in the Arts District, two near MacArthur Square, two at the Freemason and Granby St. intersection, and one at Plume St. Fountain Park.
  • Hours of operation: Sunday 8am to midnight, Monday - Thursday 6am to midnight, Friday 6am to 2am, and Saturday 8am to 2am.
We're coming down the home stretch on this and I urge anyone who can to email city council and let them know how great food trucks will be, even if it's just a really short email.  Below are the email addresses for each council member.
